MAJOR CROATIAN AIRPORTS HANDLE +11M PASSENGERS IN 2019

The 2019 business was very beneficial for Croatian airports in terms of new routes and the increase of passenger numbers. Split Airport completed its new terminal building which enables it to further increase its services, Dubrovnik became the first Croatian airport to have a direct connection with United States thanks to the direct flights to Philadelphia operated by American Airlines, while Zadar Airport has seen the biggest expansion in terms of new routes thanks to new rotations operated by Ryanair.

Major Croatian airports have handled more than 11 million passengers in 2019. A total of 910.476 passengers were added to 6 major Croatian airports, with Zadar Airport having the highest growth rate of 32.66% in comparison to 2018 passenger statistics.

Highest actual number of passengers was added by Dubrovnik Airport (356.815), followed by Zadar Airport (197.308), Split Airport (177.863), Zagreb International Airport (99.221), Pula Airport (62.034) and Rijeka Airport (17.235).

Dubrovnik Airport welcomed 2.896.227 passengers in 2019, which represents the increase of 14,05% in comparison to 2018 statistics. Airport has seen several new routes in its 2019 summer schedule. Dubrovnik connected Croatia with United States for the first time since independence with the American Airlines direct flight from Philadephia. New routes were introduced by Aer Lingus (Cork), Volotea (Lyon, Athens), El Al Israel Airlines (Tel Aviv), Ryanair (Dublin), Easy Jet (Nantes, Berlin TXL) LOT Polish Airlines (Krakow). 

In 2019, Pula has welcomed 771.210 passengers which represents the increase in 8.75% in comparison to 2018 statistics. Several airlines introduced new routes including Ryanair (Berlin), Lauda (Stuttgart), Volotea (Nantes and Bordeaux) and Easy Jet (Amsterdam and Geneva). 

RIjeka Airport welcomed 200.841 passenger in 2019, which represents the increase of 9.39% compared to 2018 data. Several airlines introduced new routes including TUI (Manchester and London LGW), Volotea (Marseille), Lufthansa (Munich) and Air Serbia (Belgrade). Croatia Airlines  two weekly service to Munich was operated also during the winter season. 

Split Airport handled 3.301.930 passengers in 2019, which represents the increase of 5.69% compared to 2018 data. Several airlines increased existing routes, while some introduced new ones such as Eurowings (Nurnberg), Luxair (Luxembourg), Lauda (Stuttgart), Wideroe (Oslo), Volotea (Lyon), Ryanair (Dublin), British Airways (London LCY), Air France (Paris CDG), RusLine (Moscow VKO). Lauda extended its Stuttgart flights to 2019/2020 winter season, facing the direct competition with Eurowings on the same route. 

Zadar Airport has seen the major increase in passenger growth and new routes. During the 2019, Zadar added 197.308 new passengers reaching the overall number of 801.347 passengers which represents the increase of 32.66% compared to 2018 data. Majority of the new lines was introduced by Ryanair (Prague, Hamburg, Cologne, Nurnberg, Eindhoven, Bergamo, Krakow, Poznan). Among others, new lines were introduced by Condor (Hanover, Dusseldorf), Lauda (Stuttgart), Iberia Express (Madrid), Easy Jet (London LGW, Berlin TXL), Air Serbia (Belgrade, Aigle Azur (Lyon), Jet2 (London STN, Manchester) etc.

Zagreb International Airport welcomed 3.435.531 passenger in 2019 which represents the increase of 2.97% compared to 2018 data. No new routes were opened connecting Zagreb Airport and the new passengers were added through the increase of capacities on existing routes. Amongst others, Croatia Airlines increased its route to Dublin from 2 to 3 weekly flights extending the flights to winter schedule. Air Transat, which previously operated Toronto flights with a return stop in Montreal, increased from 2 to 3 weekly flights to Toronto, the route on which it faces direct competition with Air Canada Rouge.
